Pregnancy & Post Natal Massage
Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy is a special and exciting time and we can all see and enjoy the positive side.    Expectant mums experience unique emotional and physical changes that occur as a result of adjusting hormone levels, increased weight gain and shifting posture. While this is a beautiful period of heightened expectation and joy, mothers-to-be can also endure heightened physical discomfort that ranges from headaches, pressure on the hips, knees and muscular tension.
Regular massage during pregnancy carried out by an experienced specialized pregnancy massage therapist (and your therapist is also a mum of 2 small children) is great for relieving aches and pains, tension, lymph drainage which helps to clear swelling in the hands and feet.  Both anxiety and blood pressure can be reduced.
Pregnancy massage is a natural, touch therapy treatment aimed at alleviating these and other pregnancy related symptoms.  Experienced therapists choose techniques that are safe and effective for pregnant women

During your pregnancy you may seem to be busier than ever, preparing for the leaving work, the birth, baby’s room, clothes, equipment, etc but taking time for yourself during pregnancy can be uplifting emotionally and much needed!!
The soothing essence of massage allows pregnant moms to unwind and feel calm, comforted and healthy during a period of added physical and emotional stress. Some women also choose to incorporate elements of massage during childbirth to cope with delivery, together with other techniques of meditation and positive visualizations (please see Natural Pregnancy Courses page)

Post Natal Massage
After the delivery of your baby your body, mind and spirit are still going through new feelings and hormonal changes.  As you begin your exciting new life with your baby, massage therapy can also be a therapeutic treatment as your body and emotions return to its normal natural state of being.   You will benefit hugely from massage after the birth as much as preparing for the birth.  Most women experience some back ache after the birth and massage can help to relieve that, amongst other things.
New moms are also learning how to bring the benefits of touch therapy to their children through baby massage classes (please see Baby Massage Courses page)

Is it safe for me to receive a massage?
All expectant mothers should check with their doctors prior to getting a massage. If you have diabetes or high blood pressure, massage may not be recommended.  Also if you are in your first trimester (up to 12 weeks) massage is not advised.  As soon as you are over your 12 weeks and have no complications, you are ready to receive regular massage treatments.
During your first appointment, you will discuss and fill in a consultation form with your therapist.  It is important to share information about your condition and your preferences with your massage therapist when you arrive for your appointment. The massage therapist will adjust your prenatal massage to make it as soothing and as useful as possible based on your personal needs and preferences.
